Jose and Martha Jara started their journey together in Los Angeles in 1974 with the aspiration of one day living the American Dream. After being a housewife for 15 years Martha wanted to open a restaurant with her family recipes.
In 1989 they started their first Taco Shop. A small, warm felt shop with home cooked meals and a welcoming family ambiance was the start of their first concept “Jose’s Taco Shop,” which is still posted above their first location in Glen Avon, CA.
Jose’s Mexican Food represents the rural inner countryside of Zacatecas, Mexico where the Jara family is from. The concept is a thriving business and people love the energy and culture of Zacatecas.
“We really came into this not knowing anything about the restaurant industry. All we knew was how we cooked at home and how we treated our guests in our home. We brought this culture to our restaurant and people have shown us they love it!”
“In our culture we show our love to our family and friends through food. The heart of all of our gatherings is the food. Now we can share our love and friendship with an entire community,” says Martha.
Seeing the business grow has been a great and exciting experience, as well as a dream come true.
Most importantly seeing the kids that started in the company years ago grow into strong, value-driven leaders, with a heart for people has given Jose and Martha a purpose-driven life.
The beauty of the company is everyone in the business is like family. You will find leaders that love food and love sharing food in every restaurant. You find a heart of gold and the heart of an owner in every restaurant, and that is what makes Jose’s Mexican Food a great culture, experience, and organization.
